How do search engines work?

Answer - After a web site has been launched, it needs to be listed on the search engines. This is done by submitting your site to them and having them review your site. This review may be done by a human editor, or more commonly, they will scan your site electronically (sometimes called robots or spiders).

Search engine ranking technology is an ever changing field and should be treated as such. Some basic rules will always apply. Search engines look for keywords in your domain name, page titles, text on your pages, meta tags, and use other criteria in ranking your site.

Most hosting organizations (Tanglewood Web included) will submit your site to the major search engines (currently we submit to 14) as part of the hosting package, some charge extra. Tanglewood Web also offers mass submission to thousands of search engines and link directories for your site.
